Fear of your camera?
Afraid to fiddle with all those knobs and dials on your camera? Worried that once you start turning them it’ll never be the same again? Think that the manufacturers auto settings are the correct way to take a picture? Well your photography won’t get any better at photography if you don’t start experimenting with the manual controls.
Start to play
Stop looking at you camera like some kind of scary over complicated modern gadget and start to enjoy it by having a play. If you do muck anything up there is usually a manufacturers reset button in the menu. You could always take a look at the new book by digital photography school. These guys have given out some great advice over the years and have a great website.
Read the Manual
They can be a bit dry, lacking in pretty pictures, and printed so small that you need a microscope to read them, but they do contain all the information on how your camera is supposed to work!
Buy a book
There are some great books, such as the, brand new, aformentioned digital photography school guide to your camera. These have colour pictures, big writing, and are written to be entertaining. These can be a great help. They are written by photographers who really understand and love their subject, and make the learning experience really come alive.
Experiment
Whatever you have been doing, taking portraits, landscapes, take a tip from camera advice, take another look at your camera controls and have a play. The great thing about digital photography is you can see the results straight away. If you don’t like it change the settings and take another. Whatever you do, whether it’s buy a book, read the manual, just don’t be afraid to have a go, you’ll almost certainly get some interesting results!
